“You Have Set the Standard, It’s Our Turn To Secure Victory” – Edo Youths Rally Behind Akpata As He Prepares For A Second Statewide Tour

Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata, the frontrunner in the upcoming Edo governorship election that will shape the state’s future, has received a resounding vote of confidence from Edo youths. This comes after Akpata announced his plan to embark on a second comprehensive tour of the entire Edo State, just weeks after completing the first, with intentions to extend his campaign internationally. He shared this with the massive crowd that eagerly welcomed him upon his arrival at Benin Airport.

Addressing the media amidst the electrifying atmosphere of the “triumphant entry” carnival organized by his supporters at the airport, Akpata explained why he paused his campaign in response to recent protests. He also shared his thoughts on the concluded demonstrations.

“First and foremost, I was out of the country. My deputy governor and I undertook a highly successful diaspora tour across Europe and the United Kingdom. Upon our return, we arrived at the onset of the protests and, as a campaign organization, decided it was inappropriate to continue our campaign while the protests were ongoing—protests that we fully supported. Some of you may have seen the statement I issued just before the protests, expressing our support and urging the government not to infringe on the rights of Nigerian citizens. Although we witnessed some unnecessary confrontations in parts of the country, we thank God that the message was heard by those in power. A word is enough for the wise,” Akpata stated.

He also touched on the progress of his campaign: “Before we traveled, we had already visited all 18 local governments, and now we are starting that circuit again. We will visit all 18 local governments once more, to give us the chance to witness firsthand the realities our people are facing.”

As Akpata addressed the press, his enthusiastic supporters couldn’t hold back their excitement, chanting, “With Akpata, Edo Will Be Okay,” while others assured the Labour Party flagbearer of victory in September.
