Nigerian rapper and legal practitioner, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has shared a memorable courtroom experience from the early days of his career when he balanced law practice with his growing success in the music industry.

Speaking during an interview with Jermaine, Falz revealed that he worked at his father’s law firm while simultaneously pursuing his passion for music.

The award-winning artiste noted that legal practitioners in Nigeria are generally not permitted to engage in another profession while actively practising law, making it challenging to combine both careers.

Recalling one particular court appearance, Falz said he introduced himself in the usual manner as counsel representing his client before the presiding judge.

According to him, the judge appeared to recognise him and subtly hinted at his music career without mentioning it directly.

Falz said the judge asked whether he was involved in “something else” outside legal practice, making the remark in a coded manner.

He admitted that he was indeed the person the judge was referring to, after which the proceedings continued without any issue.

“There was a day in court when I announced my appearance, saying, ‘With profound respect, my Lord, Folarin Falana appearing for the plaintiff.’ The judge then looked at me and asked, ‘Counsel, are you not the one doing something else on the side?’ He said it in a coded way,” Falz recalled
