In his Independence Day address, the President announced the upcoming conference, emphasizing that it would provide a platform to address the various challenges and opportunities facing young people, who make up more than 60 percent of the country’s population.
NYCN President, Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, lauded the initiative, describing it as a significant step in promoting youth involvement and empowerment nationwide. He expressed hope that the conference would serve as a crucial forum for identifying the challenges faced by Nigerian youth and proposing practical solutions.
Sukubo highlighted the importance of the government taking the recommendations from the conference seriously, as they reflect the aspirations and concerns of the nation’s youth.
“This conference offers a vital opportunity for Nigerian youth to express their grievances, propose actionable solutions, and engage actively in the governance process,” he said. “It empowers young people to voice their views on issues that impact their lives, fostering a sense of responsibility toward shaping the policies that govern them.”
The NYCN, however, cautioned the government against using the initiative for political purposes or deviating from its original intent. Sukubo stressed the importance of maintaining the conference’s integrity, ensuring that it remains focused on addressing youth concerns without interference from external political influences.
He added, “It is crucial that the conference focuses solely on the needs and concerns of the youth, without being swayed by political agendas. Preserving the integrity of this platform is key to effectively addressing the challenges faced by young Nigerians.”
