The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has pledged its support for small-scale farmers, aiming to foster their growth and transform them into training hubs for young people. This initiative forms part of the NDDC’s strategy to bolster food security and advance youth employment opportunities.

Victor Antai, the Executive Director of Projects at NDDC, reiterated this commitment during a recent visit to farms in Akwa Ibom State. He underscored the agency’s dedication to harnessing the agricultural capabilities of the Niger Delta region while advocating for a shift from traditional to mechanized farming practices.

Accompanied by key officials including Mrs. Winifred Madume and Dr. Godwin Nosiri, directors of Agriculture and Fisheries, and Commercial and Industrial Development respectively, Antai commended the enthusiasm displayed by young farmers in augmenting food production.

To support its agricultural endeavors, NDDC plans to procure modern farming equipment like tractors, particularly for its ‘Holistic Opportunities, Projects, and Engagement’ (HOPE) initiative. Antai explained that HOPE aims to engage regional youths by creating employment avenues, with agriculture being a primary focus.
