Zamfara Gets New Civil Service Boss As Lawal Makes Fresh Appointment

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has approved the appointment of Shehu Baraya as the new Head of the State Civil Service, with the appointment taking immediate effect.

The development was announced by the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, in a statement issued on Friday, September 4, 2026.

Baraya succeeds Yakubu Sani Haidara, who recently retired from the Zamfara State Civil Service after completing his years of service.

According to the statement, the new Head of Service is a seasoned career civil servant with extensive experience in public administration. Before his latest appointment, Baraya served as Permanent Secretary in several ministries and was the Permanent Secretary of the Zamfara State Civil Service Commission.

His new position places him at the centre of coordinating the activities of the state civil service and supporting the implementation of government policies and administrative programmes across ministries, departments and agencies.

Governor Lawal commended the retired Head of Service, Haidara, for his dedication and contributions to the development of the state civil service. He also wished him a fulfilling and rewarding life after retirement.

The governor charged Baraya to deploy his wealth of experience toward strengthening professionalism and discipline within the civil service.

Lawal further tasked the new Head of Service with improving productivity, enhancing efficiency and ensuring effective service delivery across the state civil service in line with the administration’s Rescue Agenda.
