Zamfara Market Targeted In Deadly Bandit Attack: 2 Killed Many Hurt

A violent incident unfolded at Mada Market in Zamfara State on Tuesday, as a group of armed bandits launched a terror attack, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and numerous injuries. Eyewitness Mama Bilikisu recounted how the assailants, riding motorcycles and wielding sophisticated weaponry, stormed the market and began firing indiscriminately. Bilikisu, who typically sells bread, cold drinks, and water at community markets in Zamfara, expressed devastation at losing everything in the chaos. “I was selling when I heard gunshots; people were fleeing in all directions, and I abandoned my goods to ensure my safety,” she recounted.

The bandits reportedly overwhelmed the limited police presence in Mada district, granting them unhindered freedom to carry out their assault. This incident resonates with the state’s history of market-related banditry, prompting a recollection of the ban on Wanke and other markets during the administration of former Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle due to similar security concerns.
