This development follows an incident just 24 hours prior, where leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) walked out of a minimum wage negotiation committee meeting on Wednesday, labeling the government’s offer as inadequate.
During that contentious meeting, the government proposed ₦48,000 as the new minimum wage. In contrast, the Organized Private Sector (OPS) suggested ₦54,000, while the labour unions insisted on ₦615,000.
After the meeting, labour leaders expressed their disappointment, criticizing the federal government for its proposal. They deemed the ₦48,000 offer an insult to the dignity of Nigerian workers.
However, reports from Punch indicate that the government may be considering an upward revision of its proposal in the upcoming meeting.
In his letter, the chairman of the tripartite committee suggested that the government is open to increasing its ₦48,000 offer. The letter was titled, ‘Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage: Negotiation.’
