14-Year Marriage In Crisis As Ghanaian Man Demands DNA Tests On Three Children
A woman from Adumang in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, identified as Abena Ampomaa, has publicly appealed to her husband, Shaibu Mohammed, popularly known as Chief, for forgiveness after confessing that two of the three children he has raised during their 14-year marriage may not be biologically his.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Abena made the revelation during a television programme on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, where she admitted having extramarital relationships with two men, which reportedly resulted in pregnancies while she was married to Chief.
During the programme, Abena explained that one of the pregnancies occurred before the couple’s marriage, although she said she only discovered it after their wedding. She attributed the other pregnancy to a relationship she entered into following misunderstandings in her marriage and what she described as a lack of adequate financial support from her husband.
Appealing for forgiveness, she acknowledged that her actions had hurt her husband and said fear of his reaction had prevented her from disclosing the truth earlier.
Abena explained that she eventually decided to confess because she could no longer bear the burden of keeping the secret. She disclosed that the two children whose paternity is in question are currently 14 and 11 years old.
However, she alleged that her confession prompted a furious reaction from Chief, who reportedly threatened to stop providing for the children and prevent their biological fathers from offering financial assistance.
According to Abena, her husband argued that he had spent approximately 12 years raising the children and would therefore withdraw his support for the next 12 years, leaving her responsible for their upkeep.
She further alleged that Chief threatened anyone who attempted to assist her, including the men she identified as the children’s biological fathers.
The dispute reportedly deepened following the death of Abena’s father, Mr Nyame, who she said died about two weeks before her appearance on the programme. She alleged that her husband had previously threatened her father and suggested that the threats were connected to his subsequent illness and death. However, no independent evidence was presented to establish any link between the alleged threats and the death.
Overwhelmed by the situation, Abena made an emotional appeal to her husband, admitting that she had wronged him and pleading for forgiveness.
When contacted by telephone during the programme, Chief expressed anger over the revelation and accused his late father-in-law of knowing about the children’s alleged paternity while deliberately keeping the information from him.
He claimed that his father-in-law, who reportedly served as a leader in the Seventh-day Adventist Church, had been aware that two of the children were not biologically his. Chief also alleged that the deceased changed the name he had chosen for one of the children without his consent.
The husband further accused his wife’s parents of secretly receiving money from the children’s alleged biological fathers while Abena continued to live with him. These claims were made during the programme and have not been independently verified.
Chief said he had invoked spiritual curses against his wife’s family because of what he described as years of deception. He reportedly insisted that he would not reconsider his position until he received compensation for the resources he had spent raising the children.
He also made disturbing threats against people who attended his father-in-law’s burial, expressing deep resentment over the circumstances surrounding the family dispute.
Chief maintained that DNA tests must be conducted on all three children, including the youngest, whose paternity he also questioned. He said the results would determine the next steps and insisted that he would calculate the expenses incurred in raising the children before considering any settlement.
During the programme, he reportedly issued further threats against members of Abena’s family if his demands were not met, raising serious concerns about the potential for the dispute to escalate.
The controversy has brought the family’s private difficulties into the public spotlight, with questions surrounding trust, paternity, financial responsibility and the welfare of the children. The paternity claims remain unverified, and DNA testing would be necessary to establish the children’s biological relationships.
Given the threats reported during the broadcast, the safety of Abena and other family members is also a serious concern. Any threats of violence should be treated seriously and reported to the appropriate authorities.
