In an interview, Jonathan disclosed that the card reader rejected him, his wife, and his mother at their polling station.
“In 2015, the INEC card reader denied many voters in the South, including me and my wife, which caused significant frustration. Meanwhile, in the North, voters were allowed to cast their ballots without accreditation. Clearly, something was not right. I could have stopped the election,” he said, highlighting the tense atmosphere and the North-South, Christian-Muslim divides at the time.
In a separate development, Jonathan has warned the public about a fake Instagram account impersonating him.
In a statement on Thursday, Jonathan clarified that he does not operate any Instagram account and urged people to ignore the fraudulent handle, goodluck_ebelejonathan, which has been posting content, including material copied from his official Facebook page.
The statement, titled “Beware of Fake Instagram Account Impersonating H.E. Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan”, emphasized that the account is falsely representing the former President.
“Our attention has been drawn to a fraudulent Instagram account operating under the handle goodluck_ebelejonathan, impersonating former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan,” it read.
Jonathan’s spokesperson, Ikechukwu Eze, stressed that the former President does not manage any Instagram profile and strongly advised the media and public to avoid engaging with the fake account.
“We wish to emphasise that Dr. Jonathan does not operate any Instagram account. The media and members of the public are strongly advised to disregard, avoid sharing, or promoting any content originating from this fake profile,” the statement added.
