2027: APC Chieftain Raises Alarm Over Presidential Campaign Council List — “Party Was Not Carried Along

A source within the All Progressives Congress (APC) has disclosed that key stakeholders of the party were not consulted during the preparation of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) list.

The revelation followed President Bola Tinubu’s closed-door meeting on Thursday with APC governors, under the platform of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The meeting was the latest in a series of consultations between the President, governors and senior APC figures aimed at resolving the controversy surrounding the Presidential Campaign Council list released by the Presidency on Saturday, August 23, 2026.

The consultations, which began on Wednesday and continued into Thursday, focused on reviewing and possibly restructuring the controversial list.

The APC and President Tinubu had faced criticism over the inclusion of several controversial party figures in the list, including individuals currently facing corruption-related charges.

However, sources familiar with the meetings between Tinubu, APC governors and other senior party members told Punch that the list had been reviewed as part of efforts to address the concerns raised.

Speaking about how the original list was produced, another senior APC chieftain claimed that the President’s Special Adviser on Political Matters and a few individuals within the Presidency prepared the list without input from the party.

The source said:

“Can you believe that the party was not carried along in the formation of the list? The President’s Special Adviser on Political Matters and a few persons in the Presidency came up with the list.

“You can see the backlash that has trailed it. The President is handling the matter, and it is believed that some changes will be made after the two-day meeting.”

Another source close to the APC governors disclosed that the initial list had been removed from the party’s X account and that an updated version would be published after President Tinubu approves the recommendations arising from the meetings.

The source said:

“The list is part of the main agenda of the meeting. You can notice that the other controversial list has been deleted from the Twitter handle of the party.”

However, a check by Naija News on the X account of the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, showed that the controversial PCC list was still available and had not been deleted.
