Speculation had been rife over political alignments in the state, particularly concerning the future of Governor Siminalayi Fubara. There were also claims that Wike had endorsed former Commissioner for Works, Alabo Dakorinama George Kelly, following a closed-door meeting with key stakeholders in Port Harcourt.

However, speaking during his monthly media briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, Wike dismissed the reports, insisting he has not thrown his weight behind any aspirant.

“I have not endorsed anyone and cannot do so until the joint coalition at the state level meets,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Bode George, has accused Wike of exerting influence over the selection of governorship candidates across both the PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State.

George described the situation as worrisome, warning it could deepen internal divisions within the PDP and destabilise the broader political landscape if left unchecked.

He made the remarks during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show, where he also expressed concern over the ongoing crisis within the party, describing it as unprecedented and criticising members he claimed were disregarding established party processes.
