2027 Election: Tragedy As ADC Senatorial Hopeful Austin Orette D!es In Houston

Published

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Delta South Senatorial District in the 2027 general election, Dr Austin Avuigwerie Orette, has died in Houston, Texas, United States.

His death was announced in a statement signed by his media strategist, Henry Ovie Ebireri. However, the circumstances surrounding his death and the cause have not been disclosed.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Orette was born in Owhelogbo, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, and spent several decades practising medicine in Nigeria and the United States before venturing into politics.

The late politician was initially a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State but left the party in early 2026 following disagreements over what he described as undemocratic practices within its ranks.

He subsequently joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), although his stay in the party was short-lived. Orette reportedly resigned in mid-2026 following disagreements over its primary elections before joining the ADC, where he secured the party’s ticket to contest the Delta South senatorial seat in the 2027 elections.

Before his death, Orette was involved in a legal dispute with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the alleged omission of his name from the list of candidates for the January 16, 2027 election.

The politician had approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking ₦1 billion in damages from the electoral commission over the development.

Orette maintained that INEC wrongly excluded him from the candidate list despite his claim that he won the ADC direct senatorial primary with 10,950 votes.

The legal action formed part of his efforts to challenge the commission’s decision and secure recognition as the ADC’s candidate for Delta South Senatorial District.

His death comes as political parties prepare for the 2027 general elections, leaving questions about the implications for the ADC’s senatorial candidacy in the district.

The party and Orette’s associates are expected to address any further developments concerning his passing and the status of the party’s ticket.
