Ekiti Governor Oyebanji Moves To Retain Key Commissioners, Seeks Approval For 10 Aides
Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has asked the State House of Assembly to approve the reappointment of three commissioners who served in his first term, alongside the appointment of 10 special advisers to support his administration.
The governor conveyed the request in a letter addressed to the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Adeoye Aribasoye, on Monday, October 26, 2026.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the governor nominated Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Dayo Apata to continue as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice. Akintunde Oyebode was nominated for reappointment as Commissioner for Finance, while Oyebanji Filani was proposed to retain his position as Commissioner for Health and Human Services.
The three nominees previously served in the same capacities during Oyebanji’s first term in office, indicating the governor’s intention to retain experienced officials in key areas of his administration.
The request for legislative approval also includes the appointment of 10 special advisers expected to assist the government in implementing its policies and programmes.
The development follows a separate round of appointments involving officials designated to oversee critical sectors, including power infrastructure, road development, airport affairs and transportation.
Among those appointed is Philip Atere, who will serve as Technical Adviser on Power Infrastructure, while Tope Fatukasi has been named Technical Adviser on Road Infrastructure.
The governor also appointed retired Air Vice Marshal Sunday Makinde as Technical Adviser on Airport Matters, while Tajudeen Alingbolu was named Director-General of the Ekiti State Transport Agency.
The state government announced that the appointments take immediate effect, with the officials expected to contribute to the administration’s efforts to strengthen infrastructure and improve service delivery across the state.
Oyebanji’s request for the commissioners’ reappointment and the 10 special advisers’ appointments will require the relevant legislative approval, while the separately announced technical appointments have already taken effect, according to the state government.
