2027 Elections: Bwala Accuses Obi’s NDC Of Hiding Media Surrogates In Campaign List
The Presidency has taken a swipe at the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, following the unveiling of the party’s National Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Policy Communications, criticised the composition of the campaign council in a post shared on his verified X account on Sunday.
The NDC recently announced its National Campaign Council, naming former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson as chairman, Peter Obi as co-chairman and National Chairman Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe as vice chairman. Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso was named co-vice-chairman.
The party also unveiled a National Campaign Advisory Council headed by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal. Mallam Ibrahim Abdulkarim was named Director-General of the campaign council, while the list included coordinators for various states.
The NDC said the council would oversee and coordinate its campaign activities across elective positions, including the presidential election, National Assembly contests, governorship races and State Houses of Assembly elections.
Reacting to the announcement, Bwala described the council as being dominated by content creators and questioned the absence of certain media figures he believed were supporting the party’s campaign.
“Peter Obi and NDC have released their list of campaign council members; and as expected it is filled with content creators,” Bwala wrote.
He further alleged that Obi and the party had deliberately left out individuals he described as campaign media surrogates operating within mainstream media under the guise of on-air personalities.
Bwala’s comments have added to the political exchanges surrounding preparations for the 2027 elections, as parties begin organising their campaign structures and public messaging ahead of the polls.
The criticism reflects the growing political contest between supporters of the Tinubu administration and opposition figures, including Obi and Kwankwaso. However, Bwala’s description of the NDC campaign council and his allegations about its media supporters represent his own assessment of the list.
The NDC’s campaign council is expected to play a central role in coordinating the party’s political activities as the race towards the 2027 general elections gathers momentum.
