2027: Ex-IGP Adamu Will Be On Ballot Despite INEC Omission – Campaign

The campaign organisation of former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed , has dismissed concerns over his omission from the list of recognised candidates recently released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), insisting that the former police chief will still appear on the ballot for the 2027 Nasarawa State governorship election.

The campaign team said the omission should not be interpreted as a setback for Adamu’s ambition, expressing confidence that the situation would be resolved through the appropriate political and electoral processes.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the Director of Media and Strategic Communications for the campaign organisation, Otaru Douglas, said Adamu remains a fully registered member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and that the process of confirming his candidacy was still ongoing.

Douglas maintained that the campaign was not concerned about what he described as attempts by political opponents to exploit the temporary omission to undermine Adamu’s candidacy.

He explained that the nomination of candidates involves several constitutional, legal and party procedures, adding that the release of INEC’s initial list does not necessarily conclude the process of candidate substitution.

The campaign spokesman said the team remained confident that the necessary steps would be completed and that Adamu would eventually be recognised as the SDP’s candidate for the election.

He also dismissed reports of tension between Adamu and Musa Adamu Angba, the SDP candidate whose name was included in INEC’s recently released list, describing their relationship as cordial.

Douglas expressed confidence in Adamu’s grassroots support and claimed that the former IGP enjoyed significant acceptance across Nasarawa State. He further maintained that the campaign was optimistic about securing victory in the 2027 governorship election.

Meanwhile, Angba, whose name is currently recognised by INEC, indicated that he would be prepared to relinquish the party’s ticket to Adamu if circumstances required such a move.

Angba said he maintained a good relationship with the former IGP and expressed sympathy over his omission from the INEC list. He also suggested that Adamu could play a significant role in the party’s effort to provide what he described as a new direction for Nasarawa State.

When asked whether there was an understanding that could lead to the former IGP taking over the ticket, Angba said both men had a good understanding and maintained regular communication.

He stressed that his priority was the overall interest of the SDP and the people of Nasarawa State, rather than his personal ambition, adding that he would support whichever candidate was best positioned to protect the interests of citizens and the younger generation.

The development comes amid growing political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the SDP’s Nasarawa governorship ticket potentially facing further clarification as the electoral and party processes progress.
