Lauretta Onochie Reveals Ndigbo’s Alleged 2027 Choice, Names Atiku

Former media aide to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, Lauretta Onochie, has claimed that people from the Southeast have aligned themselves with African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 general election.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Onochie made the claim in a post on her X account, where she referred to Atiku as an incoming president and expressed optimism that the Southeast would experience significant industrial and economic transformation if he eventually becomes Nigeria’s president.

She also commended people from the Southeast for what she described as their regular visits to Abuja to strengthen relationships and political alliances with people from the northern part of the country.

Onochie suggested that the growing interaction between the two regions was an indication of broader political alignment ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

She expressed confidence that Igboland would be transformed and industrialised under Atiku’s leadership, while using the hashtag #AtikuIsComing to reinforce her position.

Her comments come amid increasing political manoeuvring by opposition groups ahead of the 2027 elections, with Atiku emerging as one of the prominent figures seeking to challenge the ruling establishment.

Meanwhile, Arise Television anchor Reuben Abati has dismissed concerns raised by Atiku over President Bola Tinubu’s three-week vacation in Europe.

Atiku had criticised Tinubu’s decision to embark on the trip, arguing that the president’s absence was unnecessary given the economic difficulties facing Nigerians.

Reacting during an edition of the Morning Show, Abati described some of the questions raised by Atiku’s camp as embarrassing and suggested that they had not been adequately researched.

The broadcaster maintained that Tinubu was constitutionally entitled to travel and could visit any destination of his choice, provided his absence did not exceed the period that would require him to formally transfer presidential authority.

The contrasting positions have added to the growing political debate surrounding the 2027 presidential contest, as opposition figures and supporters of the current administration increasingly trade criticisms over governance and national priorities.
