A source who spoke with Daily Sun disclosed that prominent PDP stalwarts—including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Senate President David Mark, and former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal—convened in Abuja on Tuesday to finalize preparations for a broad alliance of opposition politicians targeting the 2027 general elections.
The meeting, chaired by David Mark, reportedly focused on plans for several opposition leaders to align with the ADC as their platform for the next electoral cycle.
Among those present were former governors Liyel Imoke (Cross River), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Gabriel Suswam (Benue), and Sam Egwu (Ebonyi), as well as Sule Lamido (Jigawa), ex-Police Affairs Minister Waziri Maina, Senators Abdul Ningi and Tunde Ogbeha, and former Minister of External Affairs, Chief Tom Ikimi.
A National Executive Committee (NEC) member who attended the session stated that the PDP is no longer seen as a viable vehicle for contesting the 2027 elections. According to the NEC source, the meeting aimed to unify their stance before officially declaring support for the ADC.
He further noted that PDP governors and leaders resisting the coalition only represent their personal interests.
“You can see that some of our top leaders are openly supporting the APC. What has the party leadership done about it? For those of us here, we won’t leave the PDP, but we will rally behind the coalition. Anyone still planning to run under the PDP in 2027 is free to waste their money,” he said.
