2027: Peter Obi Completes INEC Nomination Form, Sparks Fresh Political Speculation
Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress for the 2027 election, has disclosed that he has completed his nomination form for submission to the Independent National Electoral Commission, using the opportunity to question the priorities of Nigeria’s political leadership.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement released on Tuesday, the former Anambra State governor said one of the questions contained in the nomination form prompted him to reflect on the country’s leadership challenges.
According to Obi, the form asks candidates whether they have ever been declared to be of unsound mind or adjudged mentally unfit. He said the question led him to consider whether Nigeria’s current political leaders have demonstrated the qualities expected of sound and responsible leadership.
The former governor argued that with worsening insecurity, widespread kidnappings, unsafe highways and growing economic hardship, national leaders should be focusing on addressing the country’s pressing challenges rather than political calculations.
He maintained that a responsible administration would have declared the nation’s security and humanitarian problems a national emergency and mobilised security agencies, experts, traditional rulers, community leaders and other relevant stakeholders to tackle them without delay.
Obi said the protection of lives, restoration of public safety and stabilisation of the country should take precedence over partisan interests and political manoeuvring.
He also drew attention to another question on the nomination form, which asks candidates whether they have ever submitted forged academic credentials to INEC.
According to him, that provision presents an opportunity for the electoral commission to strengthen transparency by making public the educational certificates and credentials submitted by all candidates seeking elective office.
Obi argued that such a move would improve public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process and reinforce accountability among political office seekers.
He concluded that the country’s numerous challenges require a departure from politics as usual, insisting that Nigeria needs leaders distinguished by competence, integrity, capacity, compassion and a genuine commitment to public service.
