Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will not take voters or their support for granted as the party begins its mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Lagos chapter of the APC formally commenced its political activities with an interfaith prayer session held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos, where party leaders and supporters gathered to seek divine guidance and rally support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid, as well as other APC candidates.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the gathering brought together Christian, Muslim and traditional religious representatives, who offered prayers for the success of the party’s candidates and a peaceful electoral process.

Addressing party members at the event, Sanwo-Olu stressed that prayers must be accompanied by hard work and grassroots mobilisation if the APC is to achieve its electoral objectives.

The governor said the party would not assume that voters’ support was guaranteed, insisting that its members must work to earn the confidence of Lagosians.

“We are not taking anybody for granted. We have only asked God to give us direction. We will work, but we are also people of faith,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He further disclosed that the APC would embark on an extensive mobilisation campaign across Lagos and the South-West, reaching communities across the state as the 2027 presidential campaign gathers momentum.

“We will go out to work. We will go round. We will go to the nooks and crannies of Lagos and the Southwest,” he stated.

Sanwo-Olu also pledged his participation in the national campaign for Tinubu, while urging party members to remain committed to the APC’s electoral objectives. Recent reports similarly confirm that the governor has openly backed Tinubu’s second-term bid and expressed support for the continuation of the President’s reforms.

The governor’s comments came as other Lagos APC leaders called for unity within the party ahead of the elections. Campaign chairman Musiliu Obanikoro urged members to put the interest of the party above individual ambitions, stressing that internal disagreements should not undermine the APC’s chances at the polls.

Deputy Governor and APC governorship candidate, Obafemi Hamzat, also expressed confidence in the party’s prospects while calling for peaceful elections devoid of violence and loss of lives.

The event marked the beginning of intensified grassroots mobilisation by the Lagos APC, with the party targeting support for Tinubu at the presidential level and victory for its candidates across the state.
