The National Vice Chairman (North West) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Garba Datti Muhammad, has issued a strong warning to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai ahead of the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement, Datti urged both political heavyweights to tread cautiously, warning that their current political maneuvers could have lasting effects on their futures.

Addressing Atiku directly through an open letter, Datti advised him to abandon any plans of contesting in the 2027 presidential race and instead embrace the role of an elder statesman. He emphasized that Atiku, who has been running for president since 1993, risks wasting time and resources, especially as the PDP may not offer him the party’s ticket.

“As the next election cycle approaches, you’re at it again. But sensing the PDP may not back your ambition, you’re now reportedly plotting an alliance with disgruntled politicians to challenge President Tinubu in 2027,” Datti wrote.

“My candid advice, in your own interest and that of the nation, is to drop your 2027 presidential ambition. By then, you’ll be 80 years old,” he added.

Datti encouraged Atiku to follow the example of former Vice President Namadi Sambo, who after leaving office in 2015, has maintained a quiet, respectable presence as an elder statesman.

He further criticized Atiku’s potential bid, stating that despite his lengthy political career, he brings nothing new to the table. He also recalled Atiku’s role in the controversial privatization of national assets under the Obasanjo administration and his support for fuel subsidy removal.

On El-Rufai’s Departure and the APC

Turning to El-Rufai, Datti expressed disappointment over the former governor’s recent exit from the APC. He urged him to reconsider and reconcile with the party, reminding him of his foundational role and years of service under the APC banner.

“It’s on record that you were among the founding members of the APC. After your tireless efforts and eight years as governor under its platform, it’s troubling that you chose to walk away at such a critical time,” Datti said.
