This warning was delivered by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, during a press briefing following the State Executive Council meeting.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to free education in all public schools from primary level up to Junior Secondary School 3 (JSS3). For students in Senior Secondary School (SS1 to SS3), he noted that a minimal tuition fee of ₦3,300 is in place.
Kanu cautioned school officials who secretly impose illegal fees or levies, in defiance of the state’s policy, to desist immediately or risk strict disciplinary action.
“Any school head or principal found engaging in such unwholesome practices will not only face the full weight of the law but may also lose their jobs,” he warned.
The Commissioner also highlighted that the government has made provisions for imprest funds to cover schools’ routine expenses, eliminating any justification for unauthorized charges. He emphasized that the policy is designed to ensure quality education without financial barriers, and violations will not be tolerated.
