This initiative was unveiled during the ceremonial ground-breaking for the construction of new zonal offices for the National Examination Council (NECO) in Lafia. Minister Tanko Yusuf highlighted that President Tinubu has approved the implementation of a project acronymed DOTS, designed to revolutionize education by focusing on four key areas.

“The ‘D’ stands for data repository, which will begin with a comprehensive census to establish a reliable database crucial for planning, resource allocation, and monitoring education progress nationwide,” the minister explained. He emphasized that this data will encompass students from kindergarten through tertiary institutions, both public and private, ensuring comprehensive coverage.

“O” represents the initiative to tackle the menace of over 20 million out-of-school children in Nigeria, a critical issue prioritized under President Tinubu’s administration. Minister Tanko Yusuf underscored the potential risks posed by these children falling prey to criminal activities if left unattended.

He stressed, “If Nigeria is to reclaim its rightful place among nations, these out-of-school children must be reintegrated into the educational system, equipped with necessary skills to become self-reliant and contribute positively to society.”

The minister also highlighted the importance of “T” for teachers’ welfare and capacity building, aiming to elevate the teaching profession and ensure educators receive adequate recognition and support.

Lastly, “S” focuses on developing relevant skills aligned with current needs, essential for national development. Minister Tanko Yusuf emphasized the significance of imparting skills that match global standards, noting the pivotal role Nigerian professionals play globally.

Governor Abdullahi Sule, represented by Permanent Secretary Mr. Muhammad Sani Bala, reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting these educational initiatives to enhance learning outcomes across Enugu State.

In his remarks, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, Registrar/Chief Executive of NECO, highlighted the urgent need for infrastructure upgrades across existing state offices, many of which currently operate from inadequate facilities.

He emphasized that the new zonal offices planned for Abia, Jigawa, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba, and the ongoing construction in Lafia will significantly bolster NECO’s operational efficiency and enhance the administration of examinations nationwide.

The ground-breaking ceremonies held concurrently across these states symbolize a renewed commitment to advancing educational standards and infrastructure under President Tinubu’s administration.
