At a press briefing, the forum’s secretary, Malam Aliyu Mohammed, outlined the critical challenges facing Katsina, urging immediate federal intervention. “Despite our repeated appeals for federal support in safeguarding lives and property, the government has fallen short of expectations. Bandits continue to kill our people, burn properties, seize farms, and destroy homes.”

Aliyu voiced deep concerns about the safety of residents and travelers, questioning the effectiveness of the two defense ministers from the North. “Traveling has become perilous; you can’t be certain of returning home safely. It is unfortunate that our defense ministers have not done enough to protect the North, especially when these killings are concentrated in this region.”

He added, “Hundreds have been killed in Katsina, yet none of the ministers or the president have visited to console the victims or provide support. This situation has led to an increase in begging throughout the state.”

While acknowledging the efforts of the Katsina State Governor, who has established the Security Watch Corps, Aliyu lamented that community members lack access to advanced weaponry to combat the bandits effectively. “The soldiers’ actions are not helping, and we are still trying to understand the root of this problem. Why can our soldiers succeed in peacekeeping missions abroad but struggle here in the North?”

KSEF called on the federal government to implement urgent measures, such as establishing jungle battalions to directly confront bandits in their hideouts. “The bandits are known entities and their locations are also known. We urge the President to act decisively to save the North and specifically Katsina State.”

Additionally, the forum expressed strong disapproval of recent federal actions regarding LGBT rights, allegedly endorsed by the Budget Minister.
