Olomu emphasized that these seizures were in line with the Comptroller-General of Customs’ zero-tolerance policy towards smuggling. He disclosed that the intercepted items included expired drugs from India, cutlasses and machetes from China, and frozen chicken from Turkiyé, all violating Schedule 3 of the revised import prohibition list of the Common External Tariff (CET) and Section 233 of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023.
“These seizures resulted from combined intelligence and diligent enforcement to prevent any consignment from leaving Apapa Port or any terminal under our command without thorough examination,” Olomu stated.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to trade facilitation and robust revenue collection, while strictly enforcing laws against false declarations, concealment, and undervaluation. Olomu also highlighted their collaboration with regulatory agencies such as the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for food and drugs inspections, and adherence to end-user certificate regulations as mandated by authorities like the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
Olomu concluded by issuing a stern warning against smuggling prohibited items, affirming that only compliant consignments would be processed through the port, whether for import or export. The seized items will be transferred to appropriate agencies for further investigation and regulatory action.
