A Nigerian family has been thrown into mourning following the death of 20-year-old Darell Alao, who was fatally shot in Boston, Massachusetts, United States, less than three weeks before his 21st birthday.

Darell reportedly died on October 7, 2026, after sustaining a gunshot wound in an incident that occurred at 1171 Hyde Park Avenue in Boston.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the Boston Police Department disclosed that officers responded to reports of a shooting at the location at approximately 5:09 p.m. Upon arrival, they found the young Nigerian with a gunshot injury and immediately rushed him to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Darell, who was born to Nigerian parents, would have celebrated his 21st birthday on October 27.

In connection with the incident, police arrested 18-year-old Christian Peebles, a resident of Boston, on October 9. He was subsequently charged with murder.

Meanwhile, Darell’s mother, Nneka Alao, and other members of the family are preparing to lay him to rest. His burial has been scheduled for November 20, 2026.

However, the tragedy has been compounded by reports that his father, who resides in Nigeria, has been denied a visa to travel to the United States for the funeral.

Friends and relatives of the deceased have reportedly appealed to the United States government to reconsider the decision and assist with his father’s visa application.

They are urging the relevant authorities to grant him the opportunity to attend his son’s burial, participate in the final rites and bid him a final farewell.
