Speaking at the National Executive Council Meeting of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria in Lafia, Ahmed underscored the importance of active stakeholder engagement as mandated by the NYSC Act Cap N84 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
“The majority of Corps Members posted to rural areas support developmental initiatives through their Primary Assignments in schools, Primary Healthcare Centres, and other sectors of the national economy,” Ahmed stated.
He highlighted the complementary responsibilities of states and local governments in providing essential facilities such as Orientation Camps, Corps Transit Lodges, and Office Accommodation. Ahmed urged local governments without NYSC Local Government Committees to establish and empower them to ensure effective operations at the grassroots level.
Ahmed also addressed security concerns, urging local government chairmen to collaborate with traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community heads to enhance the safety of Corps Members. He called for improved security measures at NYSC Orientation Camps and highlighted the need for adequate office spaces for NYSC offices across various zones and local governments.
The NYSC Director-General acknowledged the support of some local governments and appealed for continued assistance in areas like transportation for Corps Inspection and Community Development Service Projects.
Mu’azu Maifata, National President of ALGON, praised the NYSC’s achievements and assured that the requests from the Director-General would be given due consideration.
