Wike claimed that the senator arranged for security operatives to escort a truckload of food to the protesters. He indicated that the senator would be questioned by relevant agencies in due course.

“We previously stated that we would keep the press informed as we monitor the protests against bad governance and hunger,” Wike said. “This is a democratic government, and we must adhere to the rule of law. Protesting is a right, but it must be conducted within legal boundaries.”

He also addressed the recent court order, which did not ban protests but limited them to the National Stadium. “We had concerns that miscreants might hijack the protests and cause property damage, which is what we are trying to prevent. The situation today in other states has been alarming, and we cannot afford to let that happen here.”

Wike cautioned that intelligence suggests further attempts to disrupt public order might occur, including plans to damage property. He urged all protesters to gather at the MKO Abiola Stadium as directed by the court.

“Intelligence also indicates that a senator facilitated food supplies for the protesters, which amounts to sponsorship. At the appropriate time, security agencies will question the senator about this involvement,” Wike added.
