During the unrest, protesters looted the KASTLEA office and nearby private homes. Aruwan, the Overseeing Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, confirmed the situation.
An eyewitness told Vanguard that the mostly young and unemployed protesters overwhelmed security forces as they moved from the Rigasa area and Abakwa end toward the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, the governor’s residence and office.
One anonymous protester described the events: “We were marching peacefully with placards and slogans against bad governance when security vehicles approached. One vehicle sprayed us with hot water, while another quickly arrived from the opposite direction. In the confusion, three of our protesters were struck and killed.”
The violence led to deserted streets in the state capital, with businesses, markets, and shops closing due to fears of further unrest. Security forces, including heavily armed police, were deployed to prevent further incidents.
Residents, many of whom had stocked up on essentials the previous day, stayed indoors, following updates on local media. Schools and vocational centers also remained closed.
At the time of reporting, the police had not provided an official statement, though they corrected earlier reports of 25,000 personnel, stating that 2,500 officers were actually deployed.
