The minister’s visit was prompted by the recent flood in Bauchi that resulted in seven fatalities and significant damage to homes and infrastructure. Umahi offered condolences and support to the affected communities.
Acknowledging the tough economic circumstances faced by the current administration, Umahi highlighted President Tinubu’s efforts to improve the country’s economic conditions. He called on Nigerians to support and pray for the president, stressing the importance of unity in overcoming national challenges.
Umahi commented, “We have no other country, and I urge you and the people of Bauchi to back him. Despite the challenges, such as the South-East’s concerns about the Muslim-Muslim ticket, I believe it was God’s will for the president to lead and reset the nation.”
He emphasized that while some of the president’s bold decisions might not be immediately clear, President Tinubu, being a technocrat, is well-equipped to understand and address the country’s issues. Umahi highlighted various initiatives, including cash transfers, student loans, and efforts to meet energy needs, as well as improvements in security and road infrastructure.
He noted the ongoing Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe road project under the Tinubu Legacy Project, aimed at enhancing transportation and economic development in the North-East.
Umahi also praised Governor Mohammed for his prompt response to the flood and support for affected communities. He revealed that the Ministry of Works has identified issues with several roads in Bauchi State, including the Kano-Maiduguri expressway at Azare and Yana, and the Azare-Misau road, which will be addressed soon.
In his response, Governor Mohammed urged the federal government to expand the Legacy Road projects in the Northeast, emphasizing the critical role of infrastructure in economic growth. He lauded the Tinubu administration’s efforts and pledged continued cooperation with the federal government.
Following the discussions, the minister, Governor Mohammed, and officials from the Federal Ministry of Works inspected the damaged section of the Babaldu-Ningi-Bauchi road
