Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi shared details of the initiative via social media on Thursday, emphasizing the efficiency and ease of the “e-policing” approach. Under the leadership of Inspector-General Olukayode Egbetokun, the E-CMR system aims to enhance road safety and improve the policing process.
Adejobi noted that the system enables vehicle owners to register their vehicles online, allowing for rapid response in emergencies. “If your vehicle is registered with the NPF E-CMR and gets stolen, you can instantly report it through your online profile,” he stated, explaining that this alerts field officers nationwide within seconds, significantly boosting recovery chances.
One of the key advantages of the E-CMR is the elimination of paperwork. “No more stopping to check papers—our officers now use advanced technology to verify documents in real-time,” Adejobi tweeted.
The system allows users to access all vehicle information digitally, making the process quick, easy, and secure.
In July 2024, it was reported that the Inspector-General mandated the implementation of the digitalized Central Motor Registry to modernize vehicle registration and enhance the country’s safety and security framework. The police anticipate that the digital system will bring greater convenience and speed to vehicle ownership transactions by streamlining documentation and verification.
Adejobi previously stated that the E-CMR would simplify various vehicle-related services, such as ownership transfers, license renewals, and updates to engine or chassis details, while also helping to prevent the sale of stolen vehicles and improving recovery efforts.
