During his address, Wike addressed the misconception that Fubara was speaking for the entire Ijaw community in their quest for influence. He expressed gratitude for the meeting, which was organized by Senator Johnson Nsakebor, who conveyed the Ijaw Congress’s desire to honor him. Wike initially questioned the need for the event, humorously requesting the funds instead. However, he acknowledged the importance of countering false narratives that suggested discord within the Ijaw community.

“This gathering sends a message to those in Abuja who may not understand. If anyone claims that the Ijaw people are against me, that is incorrect. We have ungrateful individuals everywhere. A father can have twelve children, and if one becomes an armed robber, does that make the whole family criminals?” Wike explained.

He challenged those claiming Ijaw dissent to consider the representation of Ijaw people in the House of Assembly, questioning Fubara’s contributions to their political standing. “These accusations stem from envy over our progress. These are individuals we have politically defeated multiple times, and if the opportunity arises again, we will do so once more.”

Wike emphasized his role in making an Ijaw man governor of Rivers State, attributing their success to collective efforts and sleepless nights. He questioned the loyalty of those who criticize him, asking, “Who truly loves the Ijaw people? Is it those who cannot even elevate their Ijaw brother to governorship? If they were powerful, would we have seen an Ijaw governor in Rivers State?”

He reiterated that he and his supporters choose to adhere to the rule of law and maintain a peaceful environment to attract investors, stating, “Nobody has a monopoly on causing violence. We will continue to uphold calmness and order.”
