VP Shettima Responds To Kemi Badenoch’s Controversial Remarks About NigeriaVice President Kashim Shettima has sharply responded to the newly elected leader of the UK Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch, following her critical comments about Nigeria. “Kemi Badenoch, the leader of the British Conservative Party, continues to be a point of pride for us, despite her attempts to undermine her country of origin. She is entitled to her opinions and even to drop ‘Kemi’ from her name if she so wishes. However, this does not change the fact that Nigeria is the greatest Black nation on Earth. One in every three or four Black people globally is Nigerian, and by 2050, Nigeria will not only be a global powerhouse but will also become the third most populous nation in the world.”
Shettima also emphasized the importance of migrants’ contributions to societal progress and economic growth, reaffirming the Nigerian government’s commitment to protecting migrant rights and acknowledging their positive impact on the country’s development.
Badenoch, a UK member of parliament with Nigerian roots, had previously drawn backlash in 2022 for accusing Nigerian politicians of mismanaging public funds.
