In the 2023 election, Atiku and Obi each garnered over six million votes, while Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the presidency with over eight million votes. Political analysts have suggested that the PDP’s chances of ousting the APC were hindered by the split in votes, especially after Obi left the PDP to run on the LP platform.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Paul Ibe emphasized that Atiku and Obi are now focused on forming a united front to challenge what they perceive as the APC’s ineffective and directionless government.

Ibe also addressed the recent public interactions between Atiku and Obi, describing the emerging collaboration as a necessary strategy for future success. He said, “Atiku Abubakar has long advocated for opposition parties to unite in order to effectively challenge the current administration. I believe they have been having productive discussions.”

He continued, “The lessons learned from the 2023 election are crucial for everyone involved, including Atiku Abubakar. These lessons are guiding their discussions and are key to moving forward as a united front.”

Ibe refrained from commenting on whether Atiku would consider stepping down for Obi in the 2027 election, stating that “all options are on the table.
