Bode George Challenges Plans To Take Over King’s College, Decries ‘Unacceptable’ Action
Bode George, the former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has criticized the decision by some alumni of King’s College, Lagos, to take over the administration of the institution.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Last week, prominent elders from Lagos State met with President Bola Tinubu to discuss their plan to take control of the school. However, George strongly opposed the move, arguing that the elders missed a crucial opportunity to address the pressing issues facing Nigerians.
He pointed out that the elders did not use the occasion to highlight the dire socio-economic conditions in Lagos State or draw attention to the plight of the state’s youth, many of whom are unemployed and struggling financially. George stressed that they should have advocated for programs aimed at providing skills acquisition and lifting people out of poverty, to help reduce the growing social vices in the region.
George also emphasized the urgent need to address infrastructure problems, such as the poor condition of roads in Lagos’ outskirts, including the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway and Mile 2-Badagry Road. He lamented the overall state of infrastructure in the state, including the lack of basic public amenities.
Instead of focusing on these vital issues, George noted that the elders, who are alumni of King’s College, told the President of their intention to take over the school. They even made the President an honorary member of their Old Students’ Association, despite the fact that he never attended the institution.
He questioned the elders’ approach, asking how they expected the government to hand over the school to be run as a private enterprise and what their plans for the school’s future were. He also raised concerns about whether alumni from other schools, such as Queen’s College or AIONIAN Schools, would make similar requests.
