A Nigerian blogger and publisher of Igbo Times Magazine and INews, Ejike Ofoegbu, has publicly apologised to Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, and his son, Ozonna, over the publication of multiple false and fabricated reports about them.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to the apology was contained in a statement titled “Public Apology and Full Retraction,” which was made public on Saturday by the Special Adviser to the Abia State Governor on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma.

In the statement, Ofoegbu admitted that several stories he published concerning Governor Soludo and his son were entirely false, fabricated, and unsupported by verified facts or credible sources. He acknowledged that the reports were never sourced from the governor, his family, or any authorised representative and should never have been presented as legitimate news.

The publisher specifically withdrew a number of viral claims, including reports alleging that Governor Soludo had disowned his son, that Ozonna accused his father of being an alcoholic who abused his mother, a satirical post claiming the governor “ordered Ozo from Temu,” and another story purportedly quoting Ozonna challenging the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to a drinking contest with his father.

Ofoegbu accepted full responsibility for the publications, stressing that every one of the statements was false and should not be regarded as factual reports or authentic quotations.

He also admitted to publishing other misleading reports involving Governor Soludo and former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, including claims suggesting Obi would defeat the governor in an election. He described those reports as equally fabricated, unverified, and unfit for publication.

The blogger further confessed that the false stories were deliberately published to attract online traffic, boost audience engagement, and generate financial returns. However, he said he has come to realise that no level of monetary gain or online popularity can justify spreading false information or damaging another person’s reputation.

Expressing deep remorse, Ofoegbu apologised to Governor Soludo, his family, associates, readers of his platforms, and the people of Anambra State for the embarrassment and reputational harm caused by the publications.

He humbly appealed to the governor for forgiveness, pledging to correct his mistakes and ensure that such an incident never occurs again. He also extended his apology to everyone who read or shared the false reports, reaffirming his commitment to responsible journalism and accurate reporting going forward.
