Assist Or Face Jail Time!” Police Issue Stern Warning To Nigerians

The announcement was made by the Force spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a tweet on Sunday that has since sparked widespread debate.
Referring to Section 99 of the Police Act 2020, Adejobi explained that refusing to aid an officer in distress constitutes a criminal offense.
He stated:
Section 98, Police Act 2020: A person who assaults, obstructs, or resists a police officer in the discharge of duty—or incites others to do so—commits an offense and is liable on conviction to a ₦500,000 fine, six months imprisonment, or both.
Section 99, Police Act 2020: Any person who refuses to assist a police officer under assault or in danger of assault, when called upon to do so, commits an offense and is liable on conviction to a ₦100,000 fine, three months imprisonment, or both.”
The announcement followed the circulation of a viral video showing a confrontation between a police officer and a woman, sparking public discourse on the matter.
