The Managing Director of the State Water Board, Tukur Tingilin, announced this in Katsina on Tuesday during the inauguration of grievance redress committees.

Tingilin revealed that in 2025, the government plans to initiate projects aimed at improving access to potable water throughout the state.

He explained that N8.4 billion was allocated in 2024 as part of a N20 billion World Bank-supported initiative to overhaul, upgrade, and rehabilitate water facilities in 20 communities across five local government areas (LGAs) in Katsina State.

“The goal of this project under the World Bank NG-SURWASH is to enhance water supply and infrastructure in Katsina,” Tingilin stated.

The project will involve replacing outdated pipes, installing new water systems, and performing general facility upgrades. Extensive consultations were conducted with stakeholders in affected communities to ensure project success.

The grievance redress committees have been established for Katsina/Batagarawa, Daura, Funtua, Dutsinma, and Malumfashi LGAs to address any issues that may arise between the communities and contractors handling the projects.

“For instance, if a water pipe runs through someone’s shop, the committee will ensure that any damages are repaired,” he explained.

Tingilin also emphasized that the upgrade of water facilities is essential to accommodate the growing population in these areas.

“When these facilities were first built, the population was around 200, but now it has grown to thousands,” he said.

Mr. Tingilin assured that the Gov. Dikko Radda administration is committed to ensuring that no community is left without access to water.

In his comments, the District Head of Malumfashi, Justice Sadiq Abdullahi-Mahuta, praised the initiative and pledged traditional institution support for its successful implementation.
