Akpabio Not Involved In Udom Emmanuel’s Political Troubles – Senator Enang Speaks Out
Former Special Assistant to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Ita Enang, has cautioned against linking Senate President Godswill Akpabio to the legal and political troubles of former Akwa Ibom Governor Udom Emmanuel.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Enang’s remarks follow a recent petition filed by the Network Against Corruption and Trafficking to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), accusing Emmanuel of mismanaging ₦700 billion during his tenure and diverting funds. The petition has ignited political tensions, dividing the state along sociopolitical and ethnic lines, with some alleging that Akpabio is behind his former protégé’s challenges.
Addressing the media in Uyo, Enang dismissed the claims as baseless and a deliberate attempt to distract Akpabio from his duties as Senate President.
He said: “Regarding the alleged petition against the former governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel, and the attempt to implicate the Senate President or his office, there is absolutely no evidence linking Senator Akpabio to the petition. The focus should remain on addressing the claims outlined in the petition rather than engaging in diversionary tactics.”
Enang further called on Akwa Ibom residents to rally behind Akpabio and support him in his role as Senate President. He emphasized that this is an opportunity for the state to benefit from his leadership, just as other states have united to maximize the influence of their sons in prominent national positions.
“Let us put aside political and ethnic divisions and unite to present our developmental challenges to the Senate President. He can process and address them within his power, while escalating others to the President and relevant institutions for the benefit of Akwa Ibom,” Enang urged.
