Earlier, OSIEC’s Information Officer, Sadiat Isiaka, emphasized that only media organizations and observer groups with official tags and jackets issued by the Commission would be permitted access to polling units, wards, local government areas, and the Central Collation Centre.
She warned, “Any unauthorized media personnel or observer team without an official authorization letter, jacket, and tag from the Commission will be treated as an impostor.”
NUJ Journalists Denied Accreditation
Despite repeated attempts, journalists—particularly those from print and broadcast media under the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ)—were unable to obtain accreditation.
Confirming the issue, Shina Abubakar, Chairman of the NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel, informed members that OSIEC had refused to accredit journalists for the elections.
The development has sparked concerns over transparency and media access to election proceedings in Osun State.
Meanwhile, Governor Ademola Adeleke has cast his vote in the ongoing local government elections.
Speaking with journalists after voting at his polling unit on Saturday morning, Governor Adeleke described the process as peaceful and encouraged Osun residents to turn out and vote without fear.
“The process has been very peaceful. I earlier addressed the people of Osun, urging them to maintain peace. They should vote and return home calmly, ensuring no room for violence,” he stated.
