Speaking on Friday at a meeting of the Steering Committee of the HCD Program at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Shettima emphasized that Nigeria’s progress hinges more on the strength of its human capital than on natural resources or industrial capacity.

“We must move beyond mere policies and plans. Implementation must be swift, targeted, and relentless. The era of gradual change is over—this is the time for bold and decisive action,” he declared.

He urged state governments to prioritize the five key indicators identified for tracking HCD progress and to ensure that regular State HCD Council meetings remain a non-negotiable aspect of governance.

Highlighting the administration’s commitment to human capital, Shettima stated that history would remember President Bola Tinubu’s government for prioritizing people over politics and investing in capacity-building to confront Nigeria’s challenges head-on.

The Vice President noted the expansion of the HCD Steering Committee to include key cross-cutting sectors, which has strengthened its governance structure.

He also acknowledged impactful interventions at the state level, such as Nasarawa State’s rollout of Project Fuuku, which provided over 1,000 clean cookstoves to vulnerable households, demonstrating the link between human capital development and environmental sustainability.

Additionally, Shettima highlighted the launch of the HCD Dashboard, a data-driven tool designed to track key metrics such as immunization rates, learning poverty, and youth unemployment, ensuring informed policy decisions and measurable progress.
