Battle For PDP Soul: Damagum’s Influence Crumbles Amid Atiku-Wike War Over National Secretary!
The influence of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, appears to be waning following the Supreme Court’s recent rejection of a stay of execution request by Samuel Anyanwu, who was removed as National Secretary by an appellate court ruling.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Anyanwu, a close associate of Damagum, previously held significant sway in the PDP National Secretariat but lost his position due to legal battles. His replacement, Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye, who is backed by the PDP Governors’ Forum and the Board of Trustees (BoT), is proceeding cautiously due to the ongoing legal complexities.
Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, had earlier restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from removing Anyanwu as PDP National Secretary on February 24, 2025.
Legal and Political Tensions
Amid the legal uncertainty, Udeh-Okoye has refrained from signing crucial PDP documents, particularly those concerning the upcoming zonal congresses. However, his attendance at the inauguration of the PDP South-South Caretaker Committee last Thursday demonstrated strong support from key party figures.
Last week, the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) met in Abuja to deliberate on the long-awaited meeting of the party’s highest decision-making body, the National Executive Committee (NEC). A party insider disclosed that the agenda includes reviewing certain state congress results allegedly won by loyalists of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, with Kogi State expected to be a focal point.
Additionally, the National Disciplinary Committee, led by High Chief Tom Ikimi, a close ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has recommended the expulsion of Senator Anyanwu. This recommendation follows a petition submitted by Hon. Nurudeen Afolabi Adekambi from Ogun State on behalf of the Young Generation Caucus.
Due to the uncertainty surrounding the National Secretary position, most governorship aspirants for the upcoming Anambra election have delayed their declarations, fearing potential legal disputes that could jeopardize critical party processes.
