Commissioner Jimoh explained that the restriction is a key part of measures aimed at ensuring a peaceful and orderly election process.

“The Consultative Committee on Election Security in Lagos, after evaluating public safety concerns and engaging stakeholders, has approved the restriction to support a smooth and credible election,” the statement noted.

The police chief confirmed that comprehensive security arrangements have been made, with large-scale deployment of personnel from the Nigeria Police Force and other agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES).

In addition, the Commissioner announced a ban on sirens, covered number plates, and the presence of security escorts or armed aides at polling units and collation centres, emphasizing that such presence could intimidate voters.

“No security escort or aide will be allowed to accompany any individual to a polling unit or collation centre,” Jimoh warned.

He also stressed that vehicles belonging to state security or quasi-security outfits are barred from election-related security activities, as they are not recognized by the Electoral Act for such roles.
