Human rights activist and #RevolutionNow convener, Omoyele Sowore, has declined an invitation from the Nigeria Police Force’s Inspector General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Team, citing serious legal irregularities in the summons and demanding a properly issued, lawfully grounded invitation.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement released on Tuesday, Sowore revealed that he had contacted the IGP Monitoring Team, requesting a legitimate and duly signed invitation, along with a copy of the petition that allegedly prompted the police to summon him.

According to the activist, the police claimed he was being invited for allegedly “inciting disturbance,” but Sowore dismissed the allegation, stating that the invitation referenced a non-existent offence and cited a fictitious section of the law — Section 53(2) of the “ACJA 2025,” a version of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act that does not exist.

Sowore described the invitation as fundamentally flawed and legally invalid.

He stated, “The initial invitation is riddled with falsehoods and legal fabrications. It accused me of an offence—‘inciting disturbance’—that does not exist in Nigerian law, and referenced a law that hasn’t been enacted.”

He added that his legal team had reviewed the letter and confirmed that it lacked any legal standing.

In rejecting the invitation, Sowore laid out his conditions for cooperating with the police:
“If this matter is to be taken seriously, I demand two things before I can consider attending: a valid, properly dated and signed invitation, and a copy of the petition or complaint that forms the basis of this summons.”

Despite his requests, Sowore said the IGP Monitoring Team has so far refused to comply, insisting the original, flawed invitation still stands.
