Tinubu Swamped With Crises – Jimoh Ibrahim Reveals Inside Story Behind Delay In Key Appointments

Speaking on Prime Time, a programme on Arise Television on Tuesday, Ibrahim noted that Nigeria was grappling with severe economic difficulties when the Tinubu administration assumed office.
It will be recalled that in September 2023, President Tinubu recalled all career and non-career ambassadors serving abroad. Since then, no new appointments have been made.
Despite the delay, Ibrahim expressed optimism that ambassadorial appointments would happen soon.
“I’m confident the president will appoint ambassadors shortly,” he said. “Such appointments require significant funding. When this administration took over, Nigeria was in a critical financial state.”
“There are many issues before the president, and he must address the most pressing ones first. While the appointment of ambassadors is important, it must be balanced against more immediate national needs.”
He added, “The embassies are still functioning and haven’t collapsed. So, it’s crucial to get the appointments right. Resources must be managed wisely—some urgent matters must take precedence. Still, that doesn’t mean ambassadors aren’t important—they play a key role in the political system.”
