Here’s Where He Stands’ — Baba-Ahmed Finally Reveals Peter Obi’s Political Party!

Speaking to journalists after the Labour Party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja—an event attended by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)—Baba-Ahmed debunked the viral reports, insisting that Obi remains a member of the party.
“To the best of our knowledge, our brother, His Excellency Peter Obi, is still a member of the Labour Party. Nothing has changed. If he were here now, I would have shifted my seat to the left for him,” he said.
Baba-Ahmed described INEC’s presence at the NEC meeting as a significant affirmation of the party’s legitimacy.
He stated, “The major highlight of this NEC meeting is INEC’s attendance. It validates this gathering and justifies our presence here. We are guided strictly by what the law provides, and as law-abiding citizens, we follow those provisions.”
According to him, the Labour Party has not declined in strength.
“The Labour Party has not reduced in any way. We have only increased in numbers,” he said.
He acknowledged that the party had faced internal challenges, which he described as normal for political organisations, but noted that the NEC meeting marked a renewed push for unity and reconciliation.
Addressing the rising insecurity in the country, Baba-Ahmed said Nigeria’s political decisions contributed to the current situation.
“Only two days ago, a national emergency was declared in Nigeria. If you recall, we warned Nigeria and the world that this was likely to happen, and it is happening,” he said.
He referenced recent security incidents, stating his view that they would not have occurred under an LP-led government.
According to him:
“Nigerians voted en masse for change, and something else happened. The result is what we saw two days ago—school abductions in hundreds and senior army officers killed publicly. These would never have happened if the Labour Party had formed the government of Nigeria.”
Baba-Ahmed also spoke on labour issues, reaffirming the party’s commitment to workers’ welfare.
“It is the birthright of the Labour Party to ensure decent and realistic living wages for all workers. This will remain a priority from now till 2027 and beyond,” he said.
Friday’s NEC meeting—presided over by factional National Chairman Julius Abure—comes months after the controversial 2024 national convention in Nnewi, which deepened the leadership crisis and split the party into rival factions.
