Speaking on Friday at the convocation lecture of Achievers University in Ondo State, Mohammed argued that Nigerians often ignore historical patterns, noting that mass political realignments have occurred several times in the country’s past.

He described fears of a one-party system as baseless, stating:
“Nigerians are very bad students of history. This is not the first time we are seeing mass movement from one political party to another. It is part of growth, part of democracy.”

The former minister also reaffirmed his loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and the APC, explaining that he has deliberately kept a low profile since leaving office.

According to him, he remains fully committed to supporting the current administration, but prefers to work behind the scenes after years at the forefront of national politics.

“I am a very loyal member of the APC,” he said.
“I am 100% behind this administration. But having served on the front line for eight years — the longest-serving minister in the history of this country — whatever I need to do now, I pass through the back channels.”
