He made the remarks on Monday in response to criticisms from Abia State Governor Alex Otti over his backing of the President.

Kalu insisted that supporting Tinubu is not a crime, but rather an exercise of his rights as a party member and elected representative.

Expressing “profound dismay” at Otti’s comments, Kalu described the governor’s statements as politically motivated and unbecoming of a sitting governor.

“The expression of my commitment to strengthening APC’s presence in Abia State is not a crime. It is my responsibility to my party and to the people I represent,” Kalu said.

He accused Governor Otti of resorting to personal attacks and inflammatory language instead of engaging in constructive political discourse, adding that such behavior reflects insecurity rather than leadership.

Kalu also described Otti’s reaction as hypocritical, noting that the governor himself rose to power through a party platform and should understand the competitive nature of democratic politics.

The former Abia State governor emphasized that he had previously extended goodwill toward Otti, describing him as a friend, and suggested that leaders with progressive ideas could find common ground within the APC.

Kalu criticized Otti’s frequent use of religious rhetoric in political debates, arguing that a healthy democracy relies on opposition, accountability, and the free expression of political choices.

He urged the governor to prioritize governance, especially in key areas such as healthcare, youth employment, and security, rather than focusing on political confrontations.

“Abians deserve better than a governor who places personal vendettas above progress,” he said.
