I Left PDP For APC — Ex-Lawmaker Reveals Why
Former House of Representatives member Dachung Bagos has described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a failed and irredeemable platform, citing the party’s internal crises and lack of direction as reasons for his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Bagos made the remarks on Tuesday during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, a day after officially joining the ruling party.
Addressing criticisms of political opportunism, he insisted his move was driven not by self-interest but by a desire to align with a party that reflects the aspirations of his constituents.
“We are not switching parties for personal ambition. We are doing so because the APC offers a platform that gives our people a voice and leadership they can trust to address critical issues,” Bagos said.
“We are not moving out of sycophancy. We are leaving the PDP because it has failed at this moment and is irredeemable.”
The former Plateau lawmaker emphasized that good governance should take precedence over party loyalty, noting that his decision was guided by policies that resonate with the needs of his people.
“Governance is beyond party lines. It is about putting agendas on the table that people can trust to solve their problems,” he said.
Bagos explained that the APC’s current national priorities align with key issues affecting Plateau State. He highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s recent policy pronouncements, particularly on state policing and local government autonomy, as motivating factors for his defection.
“If Tinubu is re-emphasizing local government autonomy and ensuring that every state holds local government elections… we want merit to count, not connections. We want young people who have never believed in politics to start believing,” he stated.
Bagos’ defection comes amid a wave of high-profile exits from the PDP to the APC and other parties, driven by long-standing internal crises within the opposition. His move follows that of Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who recently joined the APC.
