The video, which has generated widespread public reaction, prompted the command to immediately commence an investigation into the allegations.
According to the police, events leading to the arrest began on January 1, 2026, when the youth leader of the Jesse community brought several suspects to the local police station, including the woman’s brother, Israel Onojeruo, a 20-year-old man. Onojeruo was arrested based on a confession by another suspect, Okoro Desmond, who alleged that he sold a firearm to him. All suspects were later transferred to the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU) for further investigation.
Reacting to the extortion claims involving the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jesse Division and two other officers, the Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, ordered an immediate and comprehensive probe into the matter. One of the officers named in the video, identified as Constable Bright, has been detained at the command headquarters. Meanwhile, the DPO has been temporarily relieved of his duties and redeployed to the command headquarters pending the outcome of the investigation.
The Commissioner explained that the decision to remove the DPO was informed by previous complaints bordering on extortion and unprofessional conduct received from multiple sources.
CP Adesola assured the public that any officer found culpable would be sanctioned in line with the Police Act and Regulations. He stressed that the command would not condone misconduct, extortion, intimidation, or any form of unprofessional behaviour under his leadership.
To promote accountability and transparency, the Commissioner encouraged members of the public to report complaints against police officers through the command’s complaint response unit via the following contact numbers: 09011112311, 09155570008, 09064308018, and 09066575187.
He reaffirmed the Delta State Police Command’s commitment to professionalism, integrity, and the protection of public trust.
