Anambra State Workers Observe Monday Sit-At-Home, Disdain Governor Soludo’s Pay-Cut Threats

Anambra State workers on Monday defied Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s threat to cut their pay as they observed the Monday’s sit-at-home order issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).



Remember that during the Workers’ Day celebration last week, Governor Soludo had bemoaned the deliberate absence of civil servants from duty under the guise of sit-at-home and threatened to slash the salaries of any government workers who did not show up at work today.

However, according to TheNation, the majority of state employees working in state institutions did not report to work still on Monday.



It was revealed that there was a low turnout of workers at public institutions across the state, including schools, banks, and markets, as most of the facilities were locked.



Reacting to this, Emeka Nwafor, Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) chapter in Awka, asked Soludo to provide workers coming to work in Awka on Mondays with vehicles and security in light of the sit-at-home strike.

He described as suicidal workers arriving in Awka on Mondays from Ihiala, Onitsha, and Aguata in commercial vehicles without the government’s assurance of security arrangements.



He said by doing so, workers would feel safe and comfortable to shun Mondays sit-at-home and continue and come to work on Mondays, as directed by the governor.
